Corpora and Archive

Santa Barbara Corpus of American English

The Corpus of Spoken American English (John W. Du Bois) includes transcriptions, audio and timestamps which correlate transcription and audio at the level of individual intonation units.

International Dialects of English

The archive provides:

• downloadable recordings of accent/dialect speakers from the region you select
• text files giving the speakers' biographical details
• scholarly commentary and analysis in some cases
• and, in most cases, an orthographic transcription of the speakers' unscripted speech.(Founder Paul Meier, Kansas University)

Corpus of Contemporary American English

The corpus contains more than 410 million words of text from 1990-2010 and is equally divided among spoken, fiction, popular magazines, newspapers, and academic texts (by Mark Davies, Brigham Young University).

British National Corpus

The corpus contains more than 100 million words of text from 1983-1990 and is equally divided among spoken, fiction, popular magazines, newspapers, and academic texts (by Mark Davies, Brigham Young University).
